Score Yourself a Vasectomy 3-pointer at Advanced Urology Associates this March!

Vas-Madness 2026 is here!

Schedule Your Vasectomy. Set Your Bracket. Recover Like a Champion.

March is tournament time, and the perfect time to plan your vasectomy. With wall-to-wall college basketball and built-in downtime, there’s no better excuse to relax, recover, and catch every game of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship.

Make the appointment, stock up on frozen peas, claim your spot on the couch, and let the games begin. Doctor’s orders: take it easy for a few days — no heavy lifting, no yard work, no honey-do list. Just basketball.

Why March Is Prime Time

Every year, urology practices across the country see a spike in vasectomy appointments during tournament season. Why? Because recovery typically requires about three days of rest, which pairs perfectly with nonstop hoops coverage.

Plan your procedure just before the tournament tips off, and you’ll have the ultimate game-day setup:

  • A long weekend of recovery
  • Built-in rest time
  • The perfect reason to stream every matchup

It’s strategic scheduling at its finest.

Recovering From Vasectomy

Recovering from a vasectomy isn’t hard, but it’s important.

With Fellow’s mail-in testing, you can produce your sample at home, alone, and without having to talk to strangers the minute you’re done.

After your procedure, you’ll spend the first couple days relaxing at home with some ice packs, snacks, and beverages close at hand. No vigorous exercise or physical labor for a week, either. With all that down time, you’ll need something to do, and college basketball fits the bill.

Use ice packs for the first day or two to reduce pain and swelling. Don’t apply ice directly, and limit your usage to about 20 minutes at a time. Pain is usually managed with over-the-counter medications.

You can resume ejaculation 1 week after the procedure, but you must use an alternative form of contraception until you’ve completed your Fellow Vasectomy Test and been cleared by your doctor at Advanced Urology Associates.

After 12 weeks and at least 20 ejaculations, use your Vasectomy Test kit. Fellow will remind you when it’s time. After you produce your sample and ship it to the Fellow lab, you’ll have results in 5–7 business days.

Please call your physician if you develop a fever over 100.4F or experience excessive bleeding, pain not relieved by scrotal elevation or pain medication, or persistent pain and swelling.

Questions about vasectomies?
Advanced Urology Associates has answers.

12 weeks after your vasectomy, you’ll need to have a semen analysis. This will determine if all the sperm is cleared from your ejaculate. You must keep using birth control until your doctor reviews the results of your semen analysis to confirm that you are infertile.

Sterilization is not immediate and must be confirmed with a semen analysis after about 12 weeks. Even after you are cleared by your doctor there’s a 1/2000 chance of pregnancy, which still makes vasectomies more reliable than hormonal birth control or condoms. Having a vasectomy does not prevent the transmission of sexually transmitted infections.

Vasectomies come with the risk of bleeding and infection. Some men develop post vasectomy pain syndrome (PVPS). PVPS involves pain in one or both testicles that is still present months after the procedure. This is rare, and occurs in 1-2% of men. Vasectomies are not associated with any cancers, and do not meaningfully change the quantity of your semen or the feeling of ejaculation. Talk to your physician if you are concerned.

A vasectomy can be reversed, but it’s a complicated procedure and there is no guarantee of success. It’s usually not covered by insurance and can be expensive. If you may want children in the future, you should reconsider having a vasectomy.

Some men choose to protect their fertility by cryopreserving (or freezing) their sperm before their procedure. This provides the opportunity to pursue fertility treatment with a partner in case they decide to have children in the future. Ask your doctor about Fellow’s Cryopreservation Kit.
